In the final seconds, sheer ecstasy erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and gifted the stand-in Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane represented the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old in his dotage.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
