Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
